"Atmospheres-Mvt. II Fog and Frost" by Neil Paterson for Octet Percussion Ensemble DIGTAL Score/Parts/Recording

Fog and Frost is Part 2 of a series that seeks to create atmospheric, soundtrack-like pieces, hence the name “Atmospheres”. Many of the themes are weather related as a result. Fog and Frost was inspired by the many late night winter walks Neil would take home to the dorms after practicing. The practice building was on the opposite side of campus and the walks were often used to explore his imagination. The campus was not well lit and foggy nights were therefore especially eerie. This piece is for a percussion ensemble that covers a wide range of instruments and skill levels.

"Resonance10" by Joshua Albert is an exploratory work for a single 5.0 Octave Marimba and single Vibraphone. Inspired heavily by Steve Reich and Phillip Glass, Resonance10 aims to provide a beautiful, full featured, pseudo minimalist work, that can fit on a couple of instruments that most programs have. That is to say there is no harm in playing the piece on more than one marimba. The vibraphone player acts as a conductor while six players share sections behind and in front of the marimba. The work is easy enough to put together in a short time and perform in any environment. The "10" in the title refers to the harmonic series in which a marimba is tuned to, utilized in the piece to maximize the resonance of the instrument.

XY Recommends this piece for High School to College level percussionists.

Trinomio by Fidel Zaldumbide is a work composed for symphonic percussion ensemble in which three different scenarios with customs and traditions are sought, taking the viewer on a journey through the colors of Ecuador. The valley: It is based on Afro Ecuadorian music, both in the coastal area and in the mountains, in which both themes converge as a mestizaje to give way through a marimba cadence to "Lo Sacro" alone. The Sacred: Based on the religious processions, it seeks to capture the song and Funeral march through the long pilgrimage of the faithful. Los Andes: Composed in 5/4 and 4/4, it begins with small typical sounds in the first part of an Andean ascension, followed by the forceful force of the mountain giving way to the unequaled splendor of the Ecuadorian Andes whose theme is climax end of the work gives way to a small Coda that says goodbye and closes this trip to Ecuador and its colors.
