Trio213 - Neil Paterson for Three Percussionists Digital Copy/Score/Parts

This Trio was written as part of a composition exercise during Neil’s sophomore year in college. The goal of the exercise was to generate many ideas and sketches using only the Percussion Room number, “213.” Select instruments that were only available in this room were chosen and the ideas came exclusively from the number itself. Neil also wanted much of it to be more groove-based and as a result, the piece builds on many layers throughout the different meters while maintaining a steady pulse (often developed from the number 213). This was Neil’s second composition and was performed numerous times throughout the semester. The piece is meant to be quick, energetic, and high-impact. Using only drums (no cymbals or other metallic percussion instruments), the players must exaggerate the dynamics and articulations to properly deliver the performance.

Cinco por Cuatro DOCE by Fidel Zaldumbide is an etude written for marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone. Its name is due to the number of measures used to form musical phrases (5-4-12).

A very learnable, short, and audience friendly work for younger students, this work can be adapted for three or four players. Repetitive and purposefully easily learnable in less than a day.

XY recommends this work for young ensembles looking for a quick piece to involve players.

Parts are to be read off the score

Duration: ~2:30-3:00
